How Often to Replace a Nissan Battery

Imagine you come out of the grocery store in Baytown, only to try and head home to realize that your battery is dead. Because all car batteries eventually die, it’s important to know how often to replace a Nissan battery so you can avoid searching for Nissan batteries near you at the last minute. Unlike oil changes and tire rotations, your owner’s manual often won’t include how to know if your car battery needs to be replaced. That’s because it can vary greatly on a number of factors!

Our service team at Baytown Nissan near La Porte will help you learn how often to replace a Nissan battery, how to test a car battery, and how to find Nissan battery service near you. Even if you need help when your car overheats, we can help!

How to Test a Car Battery

The Baytown Nissan service department knows how to test a car battery quickly and easily, so if you have concerns, you can always schedule an appointment today to find Nissan battery service near you! If you need to test your car battery between maintenance appointments, here are two methods to test your battery yourself:

The Headlight Test:

  1. Turn on the engine and turn on your headlights.
  2. Rev your engine and see if the headlight brightness fluctuates with your RPMs.
  3. If the headlights get brighter, that means the current from the battery alone is not strong enough to keep the lights at normal brightness during idle.
  4. Take your car to our service center at this point for further assessment.

Using a Digital Multimeter:

  1. Set your voltmeter to 20 DC volts.
  2. Under the hood, safely touch your battery’s negative terminal (black) with the meter’s negative probe (also black).
  3. Now touch your battery’s positive terminal (red) with your meter’s positive probe (also red).
  4. Have someone turn on the headlights and check the voltmeter reading.
  5. At 80°F, 12.5 volts or higher means your battery is fully charged. 12.3 volts means it’s at about 75% charged. 11.8 volts or lower means you have a 25% or less charge.

How Much is a Replacement Car Battery?

When you’re searching for Nissan batteries near you, you’ll see endless options from all sorts of retailers. However, you can easily find an affordable Nissan replacement battery at our parts department. You should expect to pay anywhere from $50-$200 depending on your vehicle and how you use it.
